Step 2 — Add Scale Rules
Still in PH Settings → Scale Settings, scroll to the Scale Rules table.
Add one row for each product group that contains weighed items (for example, Butchery, Deli, Seafood). For each row, fill in:
| Column | What to Enter |
| Item Group | The product group name exactly as it appears in your item list (e.g. Butchery) |
| Mode | Choose WEIGHT if the scale prints the weight, or PRICE if the scale prints the total price |
| Price Minor Unit | Only needed for PRICE mode — enter 2 for prices in shillings and cents (this is the standard) |
| Enabled | Leave ticked. Untick only to pause a rule without deleting it. |
What is WEIGHT vs PRICE mode?
- WEIGHT: The label barcode contains the weight (e.g. 1.250 kg). PH POS uses the item's price per kg from your price list to calculate the total.
- PRICE: The label barcode contains the total price the scale calculated (e.g. KES 5.25). PH POS uses that amount directly and works out the quantity from it.
Most butchery and deli setups use WEIGHT mode. Use PRICE mode only if your scale operator controls the pricing at the scale.
If a product group does not have a rule set up, PH POS will default to WEIGHT mode.
